Modern Bachelor Pad — In Living Color

While we adore all of our clients and the beautiful structures which we help fill and adorn, like a parent adores all of their children, this recent mid-century modern interior design project was a particular delight. This client, a smart, energetic, creative, happy person, a man who, in-person, presents as refined and understated — he wanted color. Lots of color. When we introduced some color, he wanted even more color: Bright pops; lively art.

Hillsborough Haven Before-and-After: Green Interior Design

The before-and-after I am sharing with you in today’s blog post is not just about making a house into a home, or about making over a home into something infinitely more beautiful, welcoming, and authentic to the family that purchased it.

Although all those things are true.

This story is also about choosing to “go green.”

Family Room, BEFORE:

Spanish Mediterranean in Piedmont: Before and After

This magical Spanish Mediterranean Piedmont estate had been in the same family for nearly a century, with few changes made to the interior. (An “update” to the kitchen appliances in the 1970s is better left unmentioned, although photographic evidence is provided, below.)

Modern Eichler Makeover in San Rafael: Thoughtful Details

We had so much fun working with the well-traveled and witty homeowner of this beautiful Eichler in San Rafael. Applying minimal structural changes (we removed a wall between the kitchen and dining areas) and strategic choices regarding high-quality design elements, we created a space that is serene and inspiring, bright and varied; elegantly spare with […]

About an hour east of San Francisco, nestled among the coastal hills, a 1960’s-era California Ranch style home on expansive grounds had remained largely unchanged from its original form; a testament to the appreciation for the modernist movement. However, the original layout of the house lacked the architectural elements essential to blending the outdoors with […]

Designing for the Crocker Highlands Home Tour: the Hard, the Good, the Beautiful

When our clients announced that their lovely home had selected for the Crocker Highlands Home Tour, I met this news with both excitement and dread. Having participated in the Children’s Support League Home Tour in Piedmont two years ago (featured here on Houzz) I […]
