After and Before: Fireplace Remodel

lmb_2009-09-18_029

Make your focal point worth being the center of attention.

It never ceases to amaze me how many poorly designed fireplaces exist in the world. After we remodeled this one, our clients were able to enjoy the comfort — as well as function — the redo provided them.

We designed and installed a built-in bookcase to house multiple entertainment system components (with customized hidden wiring) as well as objets and books. Natural tile and stone were selected to seamlessly incorporate the fireplace.

After and Before: Master Bedroom Retreat

In the “Before” times, this master bedroom was just okay, but our clients wanted it to feel more inviting; a place that could be a retreat from their hectic lives.

What does the word “retreat” meant to you? Working with our clients’ vision and mixing in custom-built items with strong but generic existing pieces, we created the inviting and cozy-yet-elegant feeling they were seeking.

The Final Details Make All the Difference

An interior designer achieves beauty in your home by integrating many design principles — but the most crucial activity that creates the unique character and aesthetic harmony that speaks to your heart is in the attention to the final details: the objects and artwork that accessorize your space.

After a space has been designed and furniture put in place, selectively adorning your room with pieces that reflect your personal style is what gives that room warmth and meaning.

Meet One of Our Favorite Artists

The vendors with whom we work are talented and creative artists; we feel lucky to say they are a part of our team.

Working with people like custom finish artist Katherine Jacobus allows us to offer our clients truly unique and personalized options that beautify and enhance our interiors. Katherine’s work brings beauty to furniture and wall finishes — like the walls in this bathroom. She is unquestionably a key contributor to some of our most innovative interiors.

To learn more about Katherine, check out this article in the San Francisco Chronicle.

Presentation Board

We are often asked how our design process works. For every project, we assemble a combination of fabrics, patterns, colors, and images into a collage. In fact, assembling the presentation board, experiencing it coming together, is one of the most fun aspects of what we do!

A key part of our inspiration and implementation strategy, the presentation board is also an effective way for our clients to get a visceral sense of our vision for what the new interior will be.

Displaying Family Photos

Clutter drains energy.

Too many styles of picture frames can create a very cluttered look. Too many family photos from too many eras can add to this jumbled feeling as well. To minimize the mess and create a calming uniformity, try using matching frames, arranging images by timeline, and hanging photos all together on one wall. Another visually-unifying trick: scan your color photos and print them in black-and-white.

Displaying a few favorite images at a time and rotating your collection will keep your room feeling fresh. Highlighting your selected photos in this way also allows your friends and family to appreciate the images you love most.

After and Before: Piedmont Girls’ Room

Our goal at LMB Interiors is to design according to the value that is at the heart of our business: to create environments that are reflective and supportive of the lifestyle of the people who live there, and to do it in a way that is fun and manageable.

We want your space to reflect who you are and who you are becoming. In the case of this project, “who they are becoming” are big girls. They’ve grown past their nursery days and are ready for a more up-to-date look with lots of space for their books and stuffies, as provided by the custom dressers and window seat built-ins in the photo above.
